About the Course
A short course learning drawing and water colour methods to use in a sketchbook. My work took me all over the world, carrying a notebook, a few pencils and paints, partly as an additional research tool, partly for relaxation and to capture memories, however fleetingly, on paper. “Drawing in public places whilst travelling has broken down barriers, helped with communication, and been an amazing way of really seeing, and recalling, the detail of where I’ve been. I remember the conversations had with inquisitive onlookers, the light, temperature and anecdotes!”.
My travel sketches have given me such pleasure that I was inspired to develop this specific course combining taught drawing and observation skills both in the ‘classroom’ and alongside the opportunity to practice these skills outdoors, in ‘plein air’.
Using my own sketches and paintings as a starting point we will look at materials and methods, developing drawing and observation skills. Whether it’s a journey down your street or a trip to the other side of the world, carrying a sketchbook, stopping to look, draw and paint, is a wonderful way to experience, capture and remember the places, people and situations you encounter. This course will take you on an artistic journey, introducing you to different drawing and painting methods and materials and using a sketchbook.
